The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has thanked all members of the party for their support.

With the exception of Omisore, who secured 128,049 votes, no other candidate came close to the top two – Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party and Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.

Adeleke led the race with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than Oyetola.

The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting was cancelled.

Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

Omisore, in a statement issued on Sunday, insisted that although the party might appear to have lost the election, he believes it has won a ‘greater victory’.

Ras Kimono’s wife, Mena Okedi reportedly dies in Lagos

Efemena Okedi, the wife of the late reggae icon, Ras Kimono, has been reported dead.

Okedi is said to have died in the early hours of Sunday at her residence in Magodo Isheri, Lagos, Pulse reports.

Okedi’s death was confirmed by Michael Odiong, project manager at Premier Music.

Okedi was the third wife of the music legend and also Kimono’s manager and a member of his band while she was alive.

Her death comes three months after her husband passed away in a Lagos hospital.

Osun decides: Davido reacts as INEC declares governorship election inconclusive

Popular singer, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has reacted to the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declaring the just-concluded governorship election in Osun State inconclusive.

Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke is the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the election.

INEC said Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled about 254,698 ahead of Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who garnered 254,345 votes.

This decision followed cancellation of votes in Orolu Local Government, Ife South LG, Ife North LG and Osogbo LG resulting.

EPL: Chelsea senior player reveals why he’s leaving Stamford Bridge

Chelsea defender, Gary Cahill, has confirmed he will be leaving the club when the transfer window reopens in January.

The former Bolton Wanderers defender had recently announced his international retirement.

The Englishman has not featured for Chelsea this season following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte’s successor.

The player said he understands his new manager’s decision, but having won every domestic and European honour since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2012 he feels the time is right to move on.

The 32-year-old Cahill told Chelsea website, “I don’t want to jump the gun but as things stand at this time, probably, yes [I might have to leave in January].

Man "arrested" by snake after stealing a mattress (photos)

A man who stole a mattress in Uganda was immediately "arrested" by a snake and had to surrender himself and the stolen item.

The thief stole a brand new mattress this morning in Kyenjojo district in the Western Region of Uganda. But before he could flee with the stolen item a snake attacked him and wrapped itself around his neck. 

Desperate to get help, he cried out, thereby alerting people. 

A native doctor has been called and efforts are being made to remove the snake from the man's neck.
