Gov. Ugwuanyi coasts to victory as observers, Nwodo, Nwobodo, Archbishop Chukwuma hail peaceful election


A coalition of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) – accredited foreign and local observers, and notable leaders in Enugu State have commended the successful conduct of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state, describing the exercise as “peaceful, free and fair”.

This came as results trickling in from polling units across Enugu State indicate the state governor and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and House of Assembly candidates of the party are coasting to victory as the PDP leads with wide margins.

EFCC raids Fayose’s residence over ‘Atiku money’, PDP reacts




The Afao Ekiti residence of the immediate past Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, has been raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Thia was confirmed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement Friday evening.

The party said nothing can break the will of Nigerians to vote out the All Progessives Congress (APC) government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The wife of the President, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has stirred reactions online over her statement asking Nigerians to choose between poverty and wealth in the Saturday’s presidential election.

Voice africa reported that Aisha on Thursday asked Nigerians to “decide whether the poor should become poorer and the rich richer or a society where the gap begins to be reduced.”

The First Lady stated this on Thursday while presenting empowerment packs to 1,250 women and youths from the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

This is the moment a police officer was apprehended while aiding some alleged thugs to paint a fake Police patrol vehicle for use by politicians in Saturday’s elections in Akwa Ibom state. The police inspector was reportedly arrested in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, the state capital.

A notorious gang of armed robbers whose area of specialty was to dispossess unsuspecting riders of their source of livelihood, has been smashed.

The four-man gang, including their receiver, was smoked out of hidings after an operation in the early hours of Wednesday, February 20, 2019, during which their victim sustained severe head injury, following a wicked act of being hit with a pestle by a member of the gang.

The victim, Suuru Nofiyonbin, lodged a complaint at Agbara Police Divisional Headquarters to the effect that at about 5:30am on the said day, he was flagged down by a man at OPIC Estate in Agbara, calling Igere, a community in the area.

Patience Jonathan Plays 5 Videos In Court To ‘Prove’ Source Of Here Wealth.



Former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan’s lawyers yesterday played five videos to prove the source of $8.4 million and N7.4 billion, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeks to forfeit to the Federal Government.

The videos were projected before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The judge had last April 20 ordered temporary forfeiture of the funds, which EFCC said were suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mrs. Jonathan, Globus Integrated Services Ltd, Finchley Top Homes Ltd., Am-Pm Global Network Ltd, Pagmat Oil and Gas Ltd and Magel Resort Ltd and Esther Oba are the respondents.

CJN Onnoghen speaks on EFCC raiding his residence



The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen has reacted to reports that his residence in Abuja was raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

DAILY POST had reported that a Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode earlier said the anti-graft agency laid siege of Onnoghen’s residence.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen and why are they seeking to arrest him?

NFF reacts as Kanu Nwankwo loses medals, valuables



The Nigeria Football Federation has reacted to the plight of former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu.

The former Inter Milan star had on Tuesday lamented that all the medals he won during his playing days have been taken away from his Lagos property by unknown persons.

Sixteen feared dead in fatal motor accident on Benin-Asaba Expressway



No fewer than sixteen persons lost thier lives in a fatal accident that occurred along Benin-Asaba Expressway on Saturday.

The accident involved a commercial bus with the registration number AA137 ASB.
An eyewitness, Mariam Jacob, said the incident occurred around Igbodo community, few kilometers to Onicha Ugbo village after the bus driver allegedly crashed into a deep pothole and he veered out of his way while heading towards Onitsha with the passengers, unfortunately summersaulted, leaving sixteen passengers out of the eighteen feared dead.

The Niger State Police Command, on Sunday, arrested a 39-year-old man, Farida Banti, of Hungu village in theMariga Local Government Area of the state, for alleged murder of his wife.

The suspect was said to have killed his wife, Hajo, also known as Maijari, with a cutlass over their frequent misunderstanding.

Northern City News gathered that the suspect had earlier sent his wife to her parent’s house “to learn manners.”

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has stated that the planned arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is meant to anoint another CJN who would help legitimize President Muhammadu Buhari’s second tenure at the Supreme Court.

Frank, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, condemned the haste and the illegality apparent in the move by Buhari and APC to get Onnoghen replaced at all costs before the February presidential elections which he said they have concluded plans to rig in favour of Buhari and the APC.
